Workshop Outline
The governance of nonprofit organizations as a complex and meaningful activity for volunteers interested in ensuring that needs in the community are addressed. Often volunteers will join a board of directors because they believe in furthering the cause of the organization, but they do not appreciate the what the full extent of board roles and responsibilities. By understanding roles, responsibilities, and the areas of governance they will be working in, board members become focused and energized towards the mission.
This workshop will provide an orientation to:
- The acts and legislation that guides the governance of nonprofit boards
- How organizational structure affects board roles and responsibilities
- The roles and responsibilities of directors, Officers and the CEO/ED
- How the board as a whole works in four governance domains to achieve the mission and outcomes.
- How to create an effective strategic plan
